Westpac Home Loans

The Westpac Group - Australia's Largest Bank

The Westpac Group is Australia’s oldest financial institution. It was also the first bank established on the continent. It opened its doors as the Bank of New South Wales in 1817. Thus it remained for over a hundred and seventy years before the bank was renamed the Westpac Banking Corporation in 1982 after it acquired the Commercial Bank of Australia.

Through the years, the bank endured trials as well as made impressive strides to develop its reputation as a first-rate Australian bank as well as a lender. Westpac acquired other banks during the 1990s including the Challenge Bank Limited - Western Australia in 1995, the Trust Bank New Zealand in 1996, and the Bank of Melbourne in 1997.
